Fascinating concept in Hacker News today about the idea of the "Thought Terminating Cliche"; which gets defined as :

The most far-reaching and complex of human problems are compressed into brief, highly reductive, definitive-sounding phrases, easily memorized, and easily expressed. They become the start and finish of any ideological analysis.
Once I heard this, it became something of a Baader‑Meinhof phenomenon for me. I can't 'unsee' it happening; heck, I do it myself sometimes.
I am making a commitment, publicly; I won't engage in these kinds of statements ever again.
